Designed in 1947 by Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara, the Domus Chair was originally created for the Domus Academica student housing in Helsinki. Asked to provide a multipurpose chair for studying and dining, Tapiovaara developed a chair with a three-dimensionally moulded plywood seat that is both ergonomic and highly comfortable, allowing you to sit for long periods of time. The characteristic short armrests of the Domus Chair offer surprising support while allowing the chair to be pulled close to a table or desk.
Constructed from a solid wood frame and form-pressed birch veneer seat and back core, the Domus Chair is a durable, lightweight piece and is stackable up to 4 chairs high. Its elegant and timeless design makes it a suitable match for many indoor spaces such as dining rooms, offices or other public environments.
The Domus Chair is also available as an upholstered version.
