Shelving System by Moebe is made entirely from individual components, giving you infinite possibilities for how it can fit within your home or office space. Uprights are made from steel poles painted black or white, whilst shelves attach at any height of your choosing and are held in place with solid pieces of oak.

The wedge construction system means that the shelving system can be assembled simply and quickly with no use of tools. Furthermore, using wedges as the key building principle gives you the full freedom to play around with the system, adapting it easily to suit your specific and changing needs. The system can be extended endlessly in both width and height, allowing you to make the most efficient use of your space possible. Each leg is independent, so it is also possible to pivot and change directions within your system - enabling you to create a huge array of space divisions or simply go around a corner.

This approach to design is a core foundation of the Moebe brand. Co-founder Anders Thams explains: “We design based on the principle of creating simple constructions; not gluing, welding, using screws, etc. Instead we try to challenge these common ways of constructing products. We strive to reduce our designs to their most simple forms and functions and thereby create design leaning towards the banal”.

Materials/Construction

Shelf wedges are made from solid oak.

Shelves are made from an MDF core with either an oiled/painted oak or white lacquered finish. The MDF core makes the shelf consistent in strength and stable in dimensions, meaning that it doesn’t expand or contract. This is important when working with the wedge principle.

The uprights/legs are made from steel and given a fine grain black or white powder coat finish as standard. A wider range of colours are available on request.

    Moebe

Moebe is a scandinavian design brand based in Copenhagen, Denmark - consisting of cabinetmaker Anders Thams and architects Nicholas Oldroyd and Martin D. Christensen.

At Moebe they design, produce and keep things as simple as possible - Focussing on the essentials with a curious mind and analogue approach. Moebe strive to reduce their designs to the most basic forms, thereby creating intuitive and honest products. One of their first designs 'Frame' has quickly become a modern day classic. It combines two pieces of acrylic glass, four pieces of wood or metal and large rubber band to hold it all together. It now graces some of the finest homes, galleries and commercial environments around the world.
