Originally designed to re-use surplus wooden shipping pallets, renowned Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld created the Crate Collection in 1934. The design has now been reimagined by HAY using high quality joinery pine wood. Rietveld designed the Crate series as an inexpensive alternative to expensive furniture during the economic crisis of the time. Made with respect to the original design, the HAY Crate Collection shares the same strength and precisely balanced proportions with honest construction to minimise production costs and optimise the assembly process. The clever knock-down construction allows for simple self-assembly and a lower environmental impact through efficient shipping.
Featuring low proportions, a gently sloping back and a seat with supportive armrests, the Dining Bench's simplicity and spatial design mirror the designer's architectural style providing functionality and comfort. Crafted with FSC-certified solid pinewood with 3 layers of lacquer finish, the Crate Dining Bench is suitable for both outdoor and indoor use and the optional seat cushions provide extra comfort.
We suggest pairing the Crate Dining Bench with a Crate Dining Table to complete the look. The Crate Dining Bench is available in five different colour finishes.
