Using the standard Emeco square section aluminium tube and combining it with a solid wood seat and backrest, the Utility Side Chair is a sturdy and durable piece of furniture. Featuring a curved backrest and a unique concave curved seat, the chair ensures its user maximum comfort while seated. The handcrafted frame in recycled aluminium is offered with Emeco's signature hand-brushed finish or powder coated - both approved for outdoor use. The solid wood seat and back come in Ash, Oak, Walnut and Accoya.

Materials/Construction

Frame - Black powder coated, hand-brushed recycled aluminium (both approved for outdoor use)
Seat and back - Solid ash, dark stained ash, accoya, white oak and walnut wood

The Accoya is a new sustainable, modified wood that works just as well outdoors as it does inside. It's treated in a non-toxic acetylation process (a bit like pickling) that makes it durable, rot-resistant and dimensionally stable.

Together with his colleague Naoto Fukasawa, he coined the term 'super normal’ - it means a good example of understated, useful and responsible design. To Morrison, it answers the question of what ‘good design’ really should be.
